So, I've got Linux up and running on my laptop. Was much easier than I thought it would be to install. It's easy to use and means freedom from the usual suspects.... Thanks, Doug, for talking me through it from all the way over there!!!
[deleted user] Make sure you keep it updated, Linux is not any kind of guarantee that you'll be safe or free from anything, except a monetary exchange, you still must exercise caution and common sense. I've been a supporter, contributor, and user of Linux & GNU since the late 1980's, they are great tools, but they have had many vulnerabilities over the years, and you have to be as diligent at keeping them up-to-date as any other OS. You still have to be careful opening attachments, visiting malicious URLs, and downloading untrusted apps.
