thank you, guzzibob, i like the idea of the lady giving up her front porch to the public and share the place.....hope we all can do the same(overcome fear the others they say in here!) and i'm dreaming no lock and no key in any houses even in cities...

You can`t watch that too often Naoko,it`s a great reminder from a beautiful human being......why do we treat ourselves like we do?As for locking you`re house....it`s only been a few decades since quite a few people never had to worry about "locking up"(in parts of Wales at least) being burgled wasn`t an issue, but now I think people are so materialistic, with many gadgets and "valuable" paraphernalia that we have become overly paranoid and fearful of others nicking our stuff.....very few people are actually thieves, but they are about and always will be but that shouldn`t tarnish the fact that by far the majority are honest enough not to rob you...it`s a shame that should you have visitors when you happen to out that they can`t go in and brew themselves a cuppa and leave you a note on the kitvchen table saying they were sorry they missed you.....cheers Naoko x

yes, guzzibob, my flat was burgled 2 years ago when i was out for work and my stuff including pc, passport and a bottle of bombay saphire(my friend gave me on the previous day of the burglar!) was taken...but i didn't feel any pain, instead i felt a little relieved... all that were taken had have to go in any ways....

...the passports always handy but it`s all replaceable...sad that it happened at all though...a handful of people can be the crimewave in a whole town ...I love your attitude Naoko ,very stoic

If you've developed a sound, healthy relationship with your community and your neighbors, and opened up your property to others, there will be no burglars able to penetrate the eyes of your protective flock of friends and community. We all need to work harder to develop the unintentional community that springs up organically around most of us.

True that Shamanic...when I lived on a housing estate in the Welsh valleys back in the 80`s/90`s (BlaenauGwent was one of the poorest counties in Europe back then after Thatcher shut down most of the heavy industry) as neighbours we all knew eachother and watched one another`s backs..it was all good except for kids occasionally using my byke as a free petrol station(at least they were decent enough not to set fire to it )...we had one thing in common, being poor...that tends to bring people together- sharing and caring to survive.

On the documentry it shows the mud brick buildings in Yemen, many dating back 100`s of years...unfortunately large numbers of these have been levelled in recent Saudi(armed by the West) bombing raids....even the ones in UNESCO heritage sites.....not good at all.

There's something to being poor, isn't there? By and large those with fewer toys tend to appreciate the good things in life, have better relationships with those around us, of all colors and races, and realize that it doesn't take money to be happy. As for cob building, the UK has some really old cob structures, some having been built as long as 800 years ago. Here's some inspiration, http://inspirationgreen.com/hi…

Cheers Bro` for the link(and for being you!)...here`s a quote from the link.."Mr. S. Baring-Gould, in his Book of the West: “No house can be considered more warm and cosy than that built of cob, especially when thatched. It is warm in winter and cool in summer, and I have known labourers bitterly bewail their fate in being transferred from an old fifteenth or sixteenth century cob cottage into a newly-built stone edifice of the most approved style, as they said it was like going out of warm life into a cold grave.” ...I couldn`t agree more, this house is stone built back in the 18th century...freezing it is...I go outside for a warm up :)....as for being in a poor community,we had a community!...granted a high proportion of us were potheads and the rest didn`t mind but we shared ,chipped in,lent a helping hand expecting no reward ,partied together, had fun...good dayz indeed!
